URL Password Protection

URL Password Protection allows you to control who is allowed access to certain areas of your website. It works by password protecting specific directories so that only authorised users can view the web pages within them.

By default you are allowed to password protect 10 directories with 10 authorised users per directory.

Please note

usernames must be unique.

Most Common Use

URL Password Protection is most commonly used to restrict access to private or paid for sections of a website. For example, you might want a members area on your website for special offers or downloads. So you might choose to protect the http://www.yourdomain.com/members area of your website.

Step-by-step

  1. Click on the 'URL Password Protection' link.
  2. Click on the 'Add Directory' button
  3. Specify the name of the directory you wish to protect in the 'Directory Path' field
  4. Specify usernames & passwords for those you want to allow access to this directory
  5. Click on the 'Password Protect' button
  6. If you have not already created the directory on your hosting space you will be asked if you wish to do so
  7. The specified directory is now URL Password Protected

Please note

when editing the password protection if you remove the last user the directory will no longer be password protected.
