Windows
VPS's Coming Soon! |
[top] |
|
Serverchoice are
due to launch their new Virtual Private Servers (VPS's) with Windows
operating system on Monday 11th
February 2008.
You will be able to choose either a Windows or
Linux based operating system. Windows provides a familiar environment
for
many
users and Linux allows for complete control over the server and it's
applications.
3 Months FREE!
If you have been thinking about upgrading from your shared hosting
platform or are looking to develop applications that require more
customisation, then why not take advantage of their 3 Months Free
on all VPS products which will also including the New Windows operating
system VPS's when they launch. They are confident that you will
like the VPS product offering
with its point and click simplicity, the ability to host multiple
web sites, the freedom to install what you want and much more,
all for a low monthly cost. The free trial will allow you to gauge
for yourself the advantages of running your own virtual server
with absolutely no obligation, plus the added benefit that if you
like it you've just got 3 months free.
What
is a VPS?
By using virtualisation
technology, several Virtual Private Servers (VPS) can be installed
onto one piece of hardware that shares system resources such as the
CPU and memory. Each VPS looks and behaves almost exactly like a
full dedicated server. The big differences from shared hosting are:
- VPS are isolated from one another by fully partitioning the file
system so that they are not affected by the activities of other
accounts on the server, meaning up-time is more consistent.
- Root access to the server provides the freedom and flexibility
to start, stop and reboot the VPS whenever you want. Install your
own software and customised scripts and configure applications
with point-and-click simplicity.
A VPS gives you the features and functionality of a full dedicated server without
the associated costs. If you need to host unlimited domains, have complete
control of your environment and run your own applications, then you will
benefit from having a VPS.

Workshop |
[top] |
Last
month we covered Step 5 which involved organising our website folder
and writing the HTML for your website. This month it is the final
step.
Step 6 - Completing your Website
In the 6th and final part of our webdesign workshop we will be styling
our website via the use of CSS (Cascading Style Sheets).

To make it easier for you we have put the step by step guide into
a PDF document which you can either work from online or download
and print.
The PDF can be found here - Website
Workshop Step 6 we have also
created a zip file containing all our images and stylesheets which
is available for download here.
If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader you can download it here.
Or visit http://www.adobe.com
If you have missed any parts of this Workshop click here
for all previous steps.
Website Workshop Feedback
We have received some great feedback over the last 6 months but
we would like to know what everyone generally thought of the Workshop.
For example did you find it useful, was the workshop easy to follow
and understand, and would you be interested in future workshops?
Depending on the feedback we receive we are thinking of running shorter
workshops in the future such as flash animations, CSS and artistic
effects for your websites.
So, let us know what you thought by emailing feedback@lcn.com |

| Warning
- Valentine Newar Virus |
[top] |
Newar Virus Alert
Antivirus suppliers such
as Zone Alarm have reported a new Newar Virus also known as a Storm
Worm. It comes in the form of an email and
contains an attachment called with_love.exe. Subject lines have
been reported so far as "Sent with Love" and "Falling
in love with you". This virus will infect your PC and start
infecting others.
Users who click
on the link included in the e-mail, will be taken to a website
showing a huge heart and be invited to download the
file with_love.exe containing the Virus.
Over the last few months
there have been numerous versions of the Newar Virus. At
Halloween emails were of dancing skeletons
so there
could be more versions of this virus in the future.
Be careful over the next few weeks and check
your email thoroughly because with_love.exe virus can come
from even trusted
sources
and friends. When receiving emails containing executable attachments
(.exe) or links to websites be cautious and never open un trusted
files. |

you explored Google Earth? |
[top] |
What is Google Earth? Google Earth is a virtual globe program that was originally
called Earth Viewer and was created by Keyhole, Inc. It maps the
earth by the superimposition of images obtained from satellite imagery,
aerial photography and GIS 3D globe.
Google Earth allows users to search for addresses (for
some countries only), enter coordinates, or simply use the mouse
to browse to a location. You can view
the Grand Canyon to Mount Everest all in 3D. You can also add your
own data and make them available to others. It is simple to use and
navigate the world.
There are many features available other than just locating
your office building or your house. You can find hotels in a country
you are going to visit, directions, mapping information when exploring
a location, you can turn on various layers of mapping information
such as roads, shopping and services,
geographic features, 3D buildingsand many more.
You also get tp explore the Sky. This feature is fantastic and keeps
you entertained for hours.

Google Earth
lets you zoom in from outer space to view our planet. With Earth’s
new Sky feature, you can turn that perspective around and explore
the wonders
of the heavens. You can view images of distant galaxies and nebulae
from the Hubble Space Telescope, learn about the movement of the
planets and the lifecycle
of the stars, and more.
