SPAM and Virus Filtering with MailGuard [top]

Mailguard is an advanced e-mail security and protection system designed to help safeguard e-mail from viruses, spam, worms, malicious content and other email threats.

How it works

When an e-mail is sent it normally passes through a number of machines that route the message as it travels from the sender to the recipient. Mailguard acts just like one of these routers but with the added security benefits of filtering viruses + spam messages and shielding your inbound mailserver address from spammers and hackers.

When e-mail is sent to an account that has Mailguard enabled, all inbound messages are filtered and then delivered to your mailserver. E-mail that is flagged by Mailguard as spam or a virus will be placed in to the quarantine area and will not be delivered to your mailserver. E-mail accounts protected by Mailguard will receive periodic Quarantine Reports by e-mail. The Quarantine Report will contain a summary of any mail that has been quarantined in the last 30 days and a link to the Mailguard quarantine web interface.

Mailguard implements industry-leading technologies and systems that continuously monitor for new spam techniques, viruses and other threats, to provide accurate filtering and a low false positive rate (legitimate email incorrectly marked as spam). On the rare occasion that any mail is incorrectly quarantined the web based quarantine area allows users to un-quarantine messages to their mailbox. The web based quarantine area also allows users to:

  • view message headers
  • view virus + spam reports
  • view spam scores
  • delete messages
  • set the frequency of the Quarantine Reports adjust the sensitivity of the spam filtering

If your hosting package does not include Mailguard Virus & Spam Filtering you can add it as an additional feature by logging into http://yourdomainhere.com/siteadmin. For more information on our hosting packages and pricing visit www.telivo.com/web-hosting.html

Does your Domain Name Really Matter? [top]

Just like any business, your domain name is your identity. Think of it as your online business card. If you are serious about marketing your products and services on the internet, do it right from the start.

What are domain names?
Domain names are hostnames that provide more easily memorable names to stand in for numeric IP addresses. In fact, this reminds us a little bit of phone numbers. Would not it be easier for us to dial T-E-L-I-V-O instead of having to remember our 11 digit phone number? They are sometimes colloquially (and incorrectly) referred to by marketers as “Web addresses”. The following examples illustrate the difference between a URL (Uniform Resource Locator) and a domain name:

URL: http://www.telivo.com/

Domain name: telivo.com

Domain names can contain numbers and letters, plus the hyphen. And the domain name can contain up to 67 characters.

Does it really matter?
A big YES! is the answer. A good domain name is an asset especially if you have your own domain name. Why? Because of the following reasons:

  • Build name recognition for your company
  • Create a professional image
  • Cyber Mobility – you can move your site without loosing your domain name
  • The domain name can be optimized for your business, like bestdownload.com. It is much easier to sell and advertise with good domain name. It will most likely be the first thing that your potential customers will encounter, and remember your company if they find your business online.

Tips in choosing and creating a good domain name

  • .com and .co.uk are the most common TLD's. There other TLDs like .me.uk, .net and others
  • Maximize your domain name into advertising your company as well. Like bestdownload.com, people will understand what that means and make them want to visit your site. It gives them question on what kind of best downloads you offer.
  • If you cannot come up with a descriptive domain name, choose a memorable short name that is attractive. Brand it! Meaning, choose a great logo and advertise always (by including prominently in your ads and marketing) and make a slogan that will really reinforce the name in people’s mind.

Don't Bin Your Used Printer Cartridges! [top]

Recycle by donating them to your favorite Charity!

Individuals and companies are being urged to save office materials that normally end up in the bin - toner and printer cartridges - in order to help raise money for Charity.

Throwing away an old printer cartridge is not very environmentally-friendly and very few printer cartridges are recycled. The rest are buried in landfill sites. It takes more than 1.5 pints of oil to make a new toner cartridge and in the last decade it is estimated that millions of pounds worth of printer cartridges were dumped.

The Recycling Appeal www.recyclingappeal.com supply free postage envelopes and can set up an account which allows regular donors to support any charity they want, including local causes.

There are many charities that are in need of used printer cartridges and here are a very small number of them:
